GLBT Family Law
Experienced Lawyer Handling GLBT Family Law Matters
The state of Connecticut has recently legalized marriage for all people - offering same-sex couples many of the same legal protections as any other couple. Unfortunately, as with any other couple, some of these marriages will ultimately end in separation or divorce.
At the Law Office of Yvette P. Fallon we provide skilled legal representation for gay and lesbian couples who have encountered family law concerns. Whether you are preparing for divorce, have a custody or support issue, need a prenuptial agreement, or seeking general family advice, we can effectively represent you.

In some ways, the recent changes to the laws ensure that GLBT family law issues are the same as those that any other family faces. According to our state, there is no distinction between marriage for same-sex and opposite-sex couples. Domestic partners who have joined in civil unions also have many of the same protections given to married couples.
However, some distinctions persist as a result of federal laws and variations in the laws in other states. A marriage between same-sex partners may not be valid if you move out of Connecticut. In the event of a divorce, courts outside of Connecticut may not recognize the rights and responsibilities of each party. If you and your partner have had children, you may still need to ensure that both parents have a legal relationship with the child through adoption.
Although the state of Connecticut has taken a big step toward equality, other barriers remain. Make sure that your family is fully protected. For a consultation regarding GLBT family law issues, call attorney Yvette Fallon at 203.356.0192 or contact us through email.
